Misty Fiords National Monument

Punchbowl Cove

Punchbowl Cove

Awoke to a nice sunny day and continued our trip up Behm Canal with a stop at Rudyerd Bay and Punchbowl Cove, part of the Misty Fiords region.  The towering rock faces are cut with glacier-fed streams and waterfalls, an awe inspiring inlet of twists and turns with magnificent scoured granite peaks.  While motoring in Punchbowl Cove, we spotted a mother Grizzly bear and her two cubs foraging along a grassy shore and we stopped to observe them from our boat.  The grizzly, larger than the black bear, is identified by a large hump above the shoulders.  We continued watching the bears for several minutes before heading back out to the main channel and onward to our night’s anchorage in Manzanita Bay.
