Abandoned Hot Springs

 

Loring at Naha Bay



After a Crab Benedict breakfast, we left Fitzgibbon Cove and motored west, passing by Bell Island Hot Springs, an abandoned resort of empty buildings and a dilapidated pier preventing access to shore except by dinghy or kayak.  Not wanting to brave this rustic site, we continued our excursion west and anchored at the head of Yes Bay for the night.  The evening provided another opportunity for kayaking and the prize catch of a dozen large prawns.  Warmer weather greeted us in the morning for our cruise south to Naha Bay along the west arm of Behm Canal.  We anchored in Naha Bay just off the ruins of an old cannery wharf.  A few houses still remain at Loring from the cannery era when schooners filled with salmon from Naha Bay made their trek down the west coast.  After setting the anchor, we took the dinghy to a small public float to hike a trail to Roosevelt Lagoon.  A boardwalk that serves as a nature trail leads through old-growth forest along the shoreline of the lagoon.  Located behind a set of rapids, the lagoon is apparently a favorite area for deer, bear, and trumpeter swans.  After our hike, we continued motoring south, stopping at the Clover Pass Fishing Resort for overnight moorage.  Fishing resorts seem to be quite plentiful around the Behm Canal.  Having arrived at Clover Resort in Clover Passage, our full circle of Behm Canal is complete.
